There are two types of drums used, Primero (tenor drum) and Segunda (bass drum). These drums are typically made of hollowed out hardwood such as mahogany, mayflower, or other Belizean hardwoods.

Percussion instruments are an integral part of Garifuna music, which the Garifuna people use to tell stories of their history and culture.
